Garden Suggestion

As I continue to find and read interesting blogs, there are a few that are always so interesting to me and have made me realize that though we can be thousands of miles away, we are all people desiring many of the same things.

Tammy over at T's Daily Treasures has shared with her readers so many places I would have never had the chance to see in my life.  The first thing that surprised me when reading her blog was when she shared her visit to the Friday Market ~ I was actually surprised that there she was in Kuwait and that folks there were sharing treasures from the past.  I thought that enamelware was only here in the US and wow, was I wrong ~ I felt so stupid LOL!!

Her visit to the Dead Sea, House of Mirrors, Sri Lanka and so many wonderful places are all adventures I will never take but have let me have a small glimpse of the world beyond my front door and have really been educational which is just one reason I so enjoy visiting her blog.

Tammy left a comment for me on my last post about how dry it was and some plants she would like to have on her balcony.  So Tammy let me suggest ...

 SUCCULENTS

These Hens and Chicks love the hot sun and dry soil and are fun to see the little Chicks sprouting from under the Hen ...

They can get very large in size and just one can fill a 6" container ...

This Harvest Moon Sedum is perfect in hot, dry soil in the blazing sun and gets little yellow flowers ...  it is newly planted in my garden and just a young plant right now.

This Stonecrop Sedum is so soft and gentle, yet can withstand  hot, dry conditions also.

There are many varieties of Succulents and Sedum happens to be a new favorite of mine as I was looking for plants that would thrive on the side of my house that gets blazing hot during the summer.

You have shared much with me Tammy and I hope this post can help lead you to finding something you can enjoy on your balcony!

I love to plant hens and chicks, and unfortunately the squirrels love to dig them up!

Hi Judi! Growing succulents is a great idea for someone who does not have time to garden. And also becuase they could handle no water for days. But your patio or balcony will look as though you tend to it on a daily basis. Have a great day gardening...Julian

Thanks for stopping by my blog and letting me that sweet comment. Made my day. I think this is my first time at your blog, I'm going to spend some time reading up on some old post.

Hi Judi -- what a lovely post! Thanks so much! I have one succulent -- not sure what it is, that has continued to thrive all the years I've had it on the balcony. Also, my moss rose does okay even during the summer. Although I had a huge pot of if spilling over and somehow tons of ants got to it and killed the whole dang thing -- then Jingles did the rest by knocking down the whole shebang when she got left out on the balcony one nite. Ha! Problem here is, can only buy what is available -- limited choices. But I think definitely I am going to go to the plant souk tomorrow to see what I can find. Although a dust storm has come in so don't know what the weather will be like in the morning. Again, thank you so much for mentioning moi -- I so appreciate your thoughtfulness, and thank you for your visits. Many blessings for a bright and beautiful day! :) Tammy

HI judi, nice to hear from you.. I have tried to grow succulents and have failed each time. you will have to teach me your knowledge in them.. I am continuing to get different ideas on what to do with my kitchen.. Before when i was there, i had roosters and sunflowers and the bottles of peppers you get for decorative purposes. But now i am all for tea cups, roses, and pinks.. So that is how i am wanting to head in this time around.. so i will have to see what i find out there in this big world of if you want it , it is out there. hugggggggggggs Sheila

I love the writ up you did on my niece Tammy..she is like a daughter to me. Most summers the boys and herself come and spend six weeks with me here in the states to get away from the heat. I love reading her travel journals. She has such an interesting life compared to most of us.

Weekend blessings
